Health is a Team Effort
We are really excited about 2012! So many things are happening. We are having our first child together (a girl), we are working with some great groups on health and wellness and my son is close to finishing University. I mention my son because I know that he is going to do amazing things and I cannot wait to see him fly!
I’ve decided that 2012 is going to be the year that society turns the corner and moves toward better health. We have gone in the other direction for long enough. It’s time to turn around, and go back to a much better place. The key to this turnaround is team work. After years of working with many different types of people, one thing is clear, self motivation when it comes to exercise, is not abundant. Very few people have what it takes to stick to a healthy diet and go to the gym, hit the streets, or bust it in the living room as much as they should. Even some of the best leaders in our society struggle when it comes to their own health and well being. Just as teamwork is crucial for a company, it is also the foundation of a healthy society.
This is our simple challenge to all of you strong self motivated individuals that have no problem taking care of that machine we call a body. Offer your help and support to someone close to you that may need it. We all know someone that has tried many times over the years to get healthy and has continually failed. Ask that person out for a Green Tea or coffee and tell them if they want to change, you’re there to help. People need to be held accountable by someone who cares about them and that they care about. Maybe it is going to the gym with them or for a walk a few times a week. Offer to go to their house and help them throw out all the food that’s stopping their success. Offer to take them grocery shopping and teach them how to make meals in advance of the week. This makes life easier and limits the excuse that being healthy is too difficult and time consuming.
It’s time that we all join together to help one another get healthy. Our health care is out of control and if we don’t work to prevent disease then the disease will bankrupt us. If you think the financial crisis in the US is bad, wait until health care is costing governments 70% of their budget, or more. Don’t think it won’t happen because we are already almost at 50% of the budget.
So lets start by helping someone close to us. Turn one life around and then ask they do the same. Eventually we will all be closer and healthier, with a balanced budget to boot!!
