This is a review of FoxHill Farms amazing milk! It is a full fat milk (4%MF) and it is non homogenized. The farm is located in Port Williams, Nova Scotia. Now you don’t have to go there to get the milk, however you are more than welcome to visit anytime and see how the milk and cheese is made. If you live in Halifax you can find FoxHill products at their Seaport Farmers market location. Or if you are in Dartmouth, like us, you can head down to Alderney Landing and the milk is located in Noggins Corner Farm Market. For all other locations that carry FoxHill products you can have a look at the list provided on their website. The milk is available in 1L bottles for $3.00. The first time that you purchase the milk you will also pay a $2.25 deposit for the bottle. When the bottle is empty you simply clean it out and bring it back when you are picking up your next bottle, and then just pay the $3.00. They also have a chocolate milk however we have avoided it so far…….I have a bit of a chocolate problem ….. addiction lol.
**Keep in mind that I’m not a baby food expert or baby nutrition specialist – these are just the foods that Alia likes. Always check with your doctor or paediatrician regarding feeding your baby.
Is it just me or can feeding children be frustrating as hell?
First of all what is it about a mouth full of food that makes babies sneeze?
One day they let you spoon feed them, the next they karate chop the spoon out of your hand because they have apparently become adults over night and can feed themselves.
One day they love Puree, the next it’s everywhere but in there mouth.
AND THE MESS, we have 2 outfits for meal time around here, naked or covered in a garbage bag. Not really…..but really.
I am thrilled that my first review is of one of my favorite products! It is no surprise that I spend a lot of time online researching. It is what I do for fun lol. Two of my favorite things to research, are new ways to train the body, and also new ways to fuel the body. If you want a great body both inside and out then 80% of your battle is in how you fuel the body and the balance is how you train and rest it!
So sticking with this fuel theme I give you CHOO-IT!! This stands for Craig’s High Octane Oatmeal. This stuff is awesome! It tastes amazing and it packs everything you need to fuel your body into every scoop. It is a great balance of high quality carbs, good healthy fats, and proteins. No matter if you get the bags or the larger container, the balance is perfect and there are lots of all the ingredients.
The founder and owner of CHOO-It is Craig Campbell. I was lucky enough to connect with Craig and share some stories over email while I was ordering my first bucket of CHOO-It. Craig has a great sense of humor and you can tell is a very genuine guy. So it is not hard to believe that he came up with CHOO-IT when his mom was battling Cancer. He was trying to come up with well balanced healthy meals with the greatest possible benefit to his mom. There are lots of healthy foods in the world and when you take the time to combine great foods with great nutrient value as well as great taste you get…..you guessed it…..a great product.
Unfortunately Craig’s mom lost her battle with cancer in January of 2007. Craig does not know this, but I lost my mom to cancer the month before he did. So I am greatly appreciative that he donates $1 from every large container of CHOO-IT that he sells to fight this awful disease.
If you are an active person then you should order some CHOO-IT HERE. If you are changing your lifestyle and thinking about becoming more active, see what is in CHOO-IT HERE. After you read all about it, go back to the first of this paragraph and order some. I guaranty that you will love this product. Oh and when you are looking at the ingredients pay very close attention to the very first one. It makes all the difference in this product and the world!!
So we are now almost half way through February. Winter is almost all over and we’re thinking about spring and the warmer weather. Many of you are thinking about going south in March. Those of you heading south are probably doing well with the healthy eating and exercise. I’m not saying you’re necessarily enjoying it, but the thought of being in a bathing suit is enough to keep you from any sugary snack. However most of you are hitting that plateau and considering giving up!
For god sakes don’t give up!! This is when it all counts. You’ve been doing so well for almost two months. Your digestive system is thrilled and your body on the inside is thanking you. If you have made good lifestyle changes, then you have had some weight loss. More importantly, that loss has come from your body fat. I’m sure you have worked some exercise into the schedule and for that you have been rewarded with some new lean muscle and a more effective metabolism. This has added a few years to your life and started to lower many of those levels your doctor told you to work on (blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose etc). Your resting heart rate is now a bit lower and things are working a bit easier on the inside of that machine! All is looking amazing!
Then out of nowhere comes that damn devil on your other shoulder that starts to ask why the hell are you doing all of this? Come on you want that bag of chips, grab that can of soda! Don’t listen to that angel looking dude on your other shoulder, what does he know? Well that dude knows how your body really works! He/she knows that all of that crap that you want to eat does two things. First, it starts to break down that amazing machine that is designed to work efficiently for over 100 years and it makes a bunch of people rich!! Who, you ask? All the people in upper management at the companies that manufacture all of that crap! They don’t eat what they make because they want to live longer to enjoy the money you’re giving them!!!
Since we are on the subject of money let’s talk about that gym membership. You joined up in January and this time you said you will keep going. No matter what, you will make time in the day to get to that damn place. You will walk in the doors where there are many just like you and also regulars that can’t wait until February when most of you give up and it stops being busy!! That’s right ,many people that start in January will be done before March. Do you know how much money this makes fitness centres? Part of their budget is based on how many people will join only to give up and keep paying. They decide that they don’t need a bigger gym as 1,000’s will join and only 100’s will come regularly. What a great money maker! Each and every year they can bank on this happening, and I mean BANK on it. What if people stuck with it? What if the majority said I am not going to give up! My body is worth the work and the energy. I feel so much better after working out then sitting on my ass after work and watching Dr Oz tell me to do this.
I’ll tell you what would happen if people stuck with it. The obesity rate would drop! Childhood obesity would drop because we now teach our kids how to eat and be active. Taxes would go down because all the money going to the budget to cover medical expenses for preventative diseases would plummet. Grocery stores would carry more real food and less processed. More people eating healthy creates a demand for more farmers. This will create jobs and lower the price of healthy foods. I think you get the idea! I love how this sounds. People living longer, and enjoying their age not giving into it. Who says you can’t look 30 at 50!! You’re only as old as you feel.
FOR GOD SAKES, THIS YEAR, DON’T GIVE UP!
So in the past month I cannot believe the amount of new products that I have read about on the market for weight loss. Everything from special nutrient rich shakes, to pills and a magic drink that helps your body burn fat. I don’t know who is worse, the companies for continuing to make this crap or the public for buying it.
I would have to say that I have more of a problem with the companies! The products that are being produced are not going to solve the obesity problem in the world. In fact they will make the problem worse. All of the people that believe the wonderful stories that these companies put out, will take the product for a period of time and lose some weight, and then stop. They learned nothing about nutrition and what food can do! They basically cut calories and took the product of the day, and ended up losing some weight. They most likely did not exercise and in fact lost more muscle than fat, but to them they just wanted that number (weight) to go down. Once the number goes down they go back to life as normal and then magically the weight starts to come back. The circle of weight loss continues!
With each failed attempt people get more down on themselves and usually put more weight back on. In my opinion we have an obesity epidemic because the food being produced is highly processed and causing massive hormonal issues resulting in weight gain. There is also an issue with people being emotionally attached to food and eating. Studies have shown the fatty and sweet foods produce a chemical response in our brain that can make us crave these foods and the emotional satisfaction that they bring. Make no mistake; food is a very powerful drug. If we don’t deal with these issues then our problems will just get worse.
Government also plays a huge part in this. Companies have to get approval for their products. There should be no approval on products that only mask the problem. If the product is nothing but a crap diet that does not teach a person how to eat and live healthy, then it there is no reason to sell it! Governments everywhere are scrambling to raise taxes and find money to pay our sky rocketing health care bill. In NS alone we dedicate 42% of our budget to health care costs, and 63% of those costs are from preventable illness. That is right, if we supported each other and the companies dedicated to helping people get healthy, our health care bill could drop by 63%. Yet the problem just keeps getting worse, why? Isn’t government supposed to look out for our best interests?
There is no secret or magic pill or drink. Food is meant to fuel our body. If your body cannot use or process the food you are eating then you will suffer eventually. Your body is meant to be moved and challenged, muscle will be lost if you do not use it and help create more. If you have weight to lose then you must change your eating habits and exercise. The more weight you have to lose, the more work you have to do. There are no shortcuts! You need to work with someone that helps you change in a way that you can keep these habits for the rest of your life. Healthy eating is not for a period of time! Healthy eating and living is for the rest of your life!
It’s time we stopped making people rich that continue to make us unhealthier!
