Well my friends the time has come, the time when I tell you that I can’t find time to exercise. Remember when I wrote this post? It seems that finding time to exercises is much easier when you don’t have children.
I work full time, teach a few weekly fitness classes and have a fiancé & a 1 year old who if I’m being honest I much rather spend my evenings with then go to the gym however not exercising is not an option.
So there has been a lot going on behind the scenes these days. The site has been changing gradually and will continue to grow with content.
You will notice that we have changed the name and also have a new logo. We used a very cool site called Odesk. We posted the job and set the price and then had a ton of people apply. We seemed to click with a student and so far he has been awesome. The site allows people from all over the world to apply to do the work. We hope you like the new logo and name!
We apologize for not being as good with our posts, however those days are over and we are going to be covering all kinds of great topics and sharing lots of info. If you are looking to change your lifestyle and find your best body, you will want to bookmark our site. Also please take the time to share your thoughts and comments.
Have a great day and thanks for checking in with us.
I know you are expecting to see a normal gym bag list. Don’t forget your shorts, t-shirt, bag, towel etc. Well this is a much more important list. If you forget a couple of these things then you might as well go home! In fact if you have all 5 of these things and no gym clothes….work out in your work clothes! Let’s get started,
I opened my email yesterday and as I went through the list one of the subject lines jumped out at me. It said “Insulin pumps for Nova Scotia’s children”. Wow this really hit me. I know that childhood diabetes is bad but do we really need to legislate insulin pumps for children?
This email was actually to ask me to sign a petition that would ask the NS Legislature to approve covering the cost of insulin pumps to children. I of course signed the petition, however it starts a whole other conversation. Was the child born with diabetes? Was this passed on from the parents? Could this child have avoided diabetes? So should we legislate paying for pumps, or should we start paying for preventative measures?
We have some exciting news to share with all of you; this is not a healthy living post but its good news that we are excited to share. A few months ago we wrote about our engagement and apparently we like doing everything at once around here because not only are we getting married, we are also expecting our first child together. So actually our family is growing to 4; although Elias spends most of his year in Toronto going to university, we are excited to be four on holidays and vacations. We are already looking forward to having Elias come home and babysit….JUST KIDDING ELIAS.
My little brother will be the regular babysitter; he just doesn’t know that yet.
We are beyond thrilled to bring a little healthy baby into this world and love him or her forever and ever and ever and ever.
Rest assured we will continue to post healthy living post on this page; Healthyhfx isn’t turning into baby central, just a first little post about how pregnancy has been going.
I’m currently 21 weeks along. So far I’ve been very lucky, I felt really good in my first trimester and other than a few nauseous moments and a bit of cramping I had a great first trimester.
First trimester weight gain: 2lbs
My second trimester has been a breeze, any energy that was lost during the first 12 weeks has come back and my fussy food moments have gone away. During the first trimester I found myself being extremely picky with food, from one meal to the next I had no idea what I was going to feel like eating, I had a serious aversion to meat which is not good when living with a meat loving protein king, I got allot of my protein from eggs and cottage cheese.
One of the biggest adjustments I’ve had to make has been changing my workouts to make them less strenuous. I really enjoy my intense workouts and now I’m finding myself getting out of breath much easier, and my muscles just don’t seem to be able to do what they used to be able too. Busting out 100 squats or 25 push ups used to be no problem, but this little nugget just doesn’t let me do that anymore. I’m still going to the gym regularly and teaching spin class but my running has turned into a run/walk program or a lower impact cardio machine like the elliptical, and I’m continuing to do resistance training however I’m keeping my weight lighter. …I really miss my intense workouts.
During this last week I’ve found myself starting to get forgetful and being really clumsy, apparently this is something I can look forward too during pregnancy, I’ve heard it may get worst. However all these things are so minor I really can’t complain, my pregnancy has been amazing so far.
Weight gain so far: 8lbs
We are very happy to share this news with all of you and I welcome any helpful advice or suggestions from any parents out there. I need all the help I can get.
